Dietlinde Elke Spears was born in East Germany while Hitler was at the zenith of his power.  Her father was a Nazi. While her earliest years were carefree, everything changed in 1945. The invading Russian army drove to within a few miles of her family's home, forcing them to flee and leave everything behind. She lived under Communism in Poland for thirteen years.

This is the story of a young girl growing into womanhood and details seven years of her life during the ages of 17 - 24. It is set against the backdrop of recent history's most troubled times. The theme focuses on the transformation of her outlook from a Communistic ideology to one embracing Democratic principles and describes her struggles in the process.
