The author has expended a
great deal of effort to give students direct contact with the Bible and standard
reference works.Actual biblical texts, assigned directly out of the Bible rather
than being presented in the text, are used as reading drills....Until the
seminary instructors, for whom this book is explicitly intended, replace the
model of the graduate schools where they were trained with the methods of
standard introductory language instruction, the problem laid out in the
now-replaced introduction to this book's first edition is not likely to abate
